My Life Stays as Usual

Apple’s weather app says today’s “partly cloudy.” It also says that for the entire following week, the highest daily temperature will consistently reach 30C. And it’s depressing to learn that things will only get worse year after year from now on, if we don’t stop burning fossil fuels right away.

This means if I don’t exercise before 11 a.m., I will not be able to for the rest of the day, because the crazy temperature will not allow me.

Besides global warming (and floods, and hurricanes, and fires), my own little life stays pretty much as usual. I’ve been trying to boulder at least two times per week and so far I’ve done an okay job keeping up with it. I’m still climbing mostly V1 and V2; rarely do I get the strength and tenacity (and luck) to complete a V3. When my partner boulders with me, he and I will take turns climbing the routes and video record each other’s climb. I’ve resurrected my YouTube channel by posting my bouldering videos on it. Since I’ve been having fun watching others’ bouldering videos, I thought I might do the same by uploading my own. I’m far from being an average climber, let alone a good one. Maybe people can have a good laugh watching how I climb, LOL.

Regarding my part-time job, I’m still teaching my only student to write a literature review, for he was sick for a week. I would like to see him progress a bit faster, but it’s not something I can fully (or should?) control. While teaching, my constant worry has been that I might become the same kind of anxious, demanding teacher my ex-advisor was. I’ve had a very unfortunate experience working with my ex-advisor and I would not want my students to experience the same. Staying aware definitely helps, but I could also ask for feedback from the student. The good thing is that my student still has a few months before the deadline, and the requirements for applying to the PhD programs in Hong Kong are not too unreasonable. I will hope for the best.
